Fringe Renewed for 13 More Episodes

4/26/2012

Hug TimeScreenshot property of Fox and is hosted at FringeFiles.

Hey, Fringe fans, hugs all around. If you were living under a rock or were asleep and somehow this is the first site you see today, Fringe has been renewed! Yay! For 13 episodes... Give me a minute. Gotta sop up the tears now.

Well, it's been a long, hard fight and we knew it wasn't going to last, even though so many far less deserving series continue to skate by. But that happens on every channel and that's how it will always be. At least Fox listened to their viewers and are giving the writers the time they need to properly end the show, which will probably be in simultaneously the most heartbreaking and most heartwarming of ways. If there's one thing they know how to do it's make us cry, gasp, and "aww" all in the shortest of timespans.

I will miss you Fringe and your gifted cast, who came to feel like family to their viewers but must truly feel close to each other having been privileged to work on such a magnificent program. Wait, why get all down about it now? Fall is quite a ways away. I'll pick this up again later. For now I'll reflect silently on everything the show has meant to me over these four too-short years...and maybe loudly shout at all those who refused to give it a chance. I personally know two of them. I'm comin' for ya, brothas*.

Remember to stop by Fringenuity and thank them for their ingenuity in the face of impending cancellation. They organized the rabid fandom into a laser-focused force that made Fox sit up and take notice.
*No, I'm not getting my Abrams shows mixed up. It's just that Henry Ian Cusick was in the last episode, "Letters of Transit."

Worlds Apart and Yet So Close

4/25/2012

Worlds Apart Banner

It's time for Fringenuity campaign number I-don't-know, and there are only three episodes left this season. If you don't help it trend on Twitter then this could be its final season. Get on the ball starting at 8pm EST on Friday. Even if you're not watching live at least send a few generic but hopefully interesting or insightful tweets with the hashtag #WorldsApart, like "Fringe is #WorldsApart from so much of the mediocrity out there." Don't think you can't change things. Fox has been listening. We are so close to renewal and need every fan to participate.

Update: Yesterday, the day after I wrote this, Fringe was officially renewed. That doesn't let us off the hook for showing our support, though. It just means that the weight is finally lifted from our shoulders.

If you don't watch Fringe then here are two reasons to that I haven't used before: one funny, one sad, and both expertly done as usual. If you don't like spoilers then don't press play. Go to Netflix and start at the beginning. You won't regret it.

I Made it Through the MS Walk Today

4/22/2012

Walk MS 2012 Shirt

Yay, I got a shirt!

The MS Walk is over for this year. There are others all the time, but if we did that people would de-friend us left and right with all the begging for money we'd have to do. And all the begging leaves time for little else. How the hell did one person manage to raise $4,000? That reminds me, I must ask again, please consider donating if you can. The deadline for today's walk is actually May 25.

Anyway, after some deliberation, we chose the full five-mile route. My brother and sister-in-law are in better shape, so they let me decide. I assumed it would take too long, but I was willing to do more for the exercise. I'm amazed my legs are still attached. My ankles ran off half way through.

Letters of Transit ~ Move Along

4/21/2012

These are my favorite scenes from last night's "Letters of Transit." All episodes of Fringe are a treat, every actor having such chemistry and skill. This was no exception. But once again I must say, there's something special about John Noble (Anna, too, but it wasn't her episode). He impresses more each week, somehow topping himself by doing something new, showing us another aspect of Walter. In this 19th episode we are treated to the simultaneously hilarious and heartbreaking brain-damaged Walter.

If you don't watch and you're not interested after this scene, I just don't know what to do with you.

Video Spoiler: If you're not yet a fan, I don't suggest ruining the experience by watching this final scene of the most recent episode. Fringe should always be watched how it was intended. You might see it coming, like I did since they kept dropping hints, but the jouney is always well worth taking. Joshua Jackson does a tremendous job with the few lines he's given. His sudden realization about Etta was beautifully acted, which is certainly not a rare occurrence on this show.

Fight the Future to Save a Wonderful Show

Calling all Fringe fans, April 20th is the Nineteenth episode of this season, "Letters of Transit." These final four episodes are more important than all before, because the coming weeks are the last-ditch effort to convince Fox to renew. Join us on GetGlue and Twitter to #FightTheFuture and prove that you think the show and its lovely actors, writers, and the rest of the Fringe family deserve the chance to continue making this brilliant and captivating series.

If you haven't done this before, here are some examples of my previous tweets. For more information and icon packs go to Fringenuity.

If you're not a fan, but may have eventually watched, you don't want to start something that was left unfinished. Episodes aren't unrelated incidents, like any CSI. Fringe's cases are intertwined with an ongoing, layered, and beautifully-executed story, so it has to finish in its own time. Help #FightTheFuture by coming up with a few simple tweets you can share starting at 8PM EST even if you're not watching. The more live tweeting the better.

SUPERNATURAL
Fun with SPN
Fan Videos

4/18/2012

If you looked through this blog in the last couple months, you'll see that apparently it has become dedicated to Fringe. It's certainly my number one, but it shares that spot with a few others. I've been neglecting everything else because I've been so focused on the fate of Fringe, which always gets beaten down in the ratings and is fighting for renewal again. I've also been working on an epic post since January that takes a lot of my free time. So, here's a fun diversion: Supernatural videos! This first one was at the top of the new videos in my subscriptions back in January, when I started this. I then forgot to finish, as usual. The others also are not new, but maybe you haven't see them yet.

I am in love with this contest-winning "trailer" for Supernatural, the "funniest movie of the year."

There are tons of other great scenes, but I certainly can't put them all here. One of the best is from their version of Groundhog Day. I wish I had the time and inspiration to make one of these myself, but I would also need to buy and learn new software, maybe take some classes. Should have realized in college that video editing was something that interested me.

A Huge Heart With Noble Intentions

4/17/2012

A few days ago I mentioned the "Fans Ask Fringe" videos. Well, Fox also gives us "Noble Intentions," a series with John Noble. Most of these videos don't have nearly enough views, and that's a shame. They are full of wonderful observations and insights about the show and humanity. Here are the four most recent. I hope these will pique your interest, if you're not already a fan. Spoilers follow, but nothing that would ruin the show, except maybe a few lines in the first and third videos, which involve the jaw-dropping secret about Peter revealed in the first season finale. Even so, Fringe is so fantastic that no amount of spoilers should lessen anyone's enjoyment.

I finished this post yesterday, so of course they just released this new video for last week's episode, "The Consultant." Here Noble ponders the way we pass judgment on others without knowing their motives and the beautiful new dynamic between Walter and the other Olivia. The show's creators and actors call her Bolivia. I called her AlternaLiv and AltLivia in the beginning. Many settled on Fauxlivia. None of those feel right anymore because I love her as much as the original Olivia. Oh, getting off track here. Watch. Enjoy.

"Of course you dress the cow up to take it out." Ridiculousness is always a welcome relief from the threat of annihilation, and we get that at the beginning of "Everything in its Right Place." A good thing, too, because it has one of those knife-in-the-heart endings they do so well.

"Nothing as It Seems" has probably the most touching scene of the season, and Noble talks about everyone wanting to be a happy family. If you ever doubted his extraordinary talent, just listen to when Walter says, "I bought one every year on your birthday." The emotion is spot on. He's trying to be cheerful, but his profound grief surfaced when he said that line, especially when he hit the word "year."

In "A Short Story About Love" Walter is again wondering if he would have had the strength to make a different choice concerning Peter, were he given the chance to do it all over. John Noble thinks he would have done exactly the same. The heart trumps hindsight. We get a definitive answer to this in "The Consultant."

Anyone notice that background music, the beautiful little piece full of sorrow? It seems to be in every "Noble Intentions" video. I need to know what that is. One day it will be mine. Sounds like it comes from one of those trailer music artists, like X-Ray Dog, Two Steps From Hell, Kaveh Cohen, Zack Hemsey, or James Dooley.

Fringe's Brave New World

4/17/2012

Northwest Passage 3
Screenshot property of Fox and is hosted at FringeFiles.

Recently the name of Fringe's finale changed from "End Game" to "Brave New World," which reminds me of the end of season two. Does this mean they seem more optimistic about renewal? Maybe the finale, instead of being a true ending (all problems are resolved and everything is in its right place), leaves an opening for a fifth season. Weeks ago the writers said they had time to wrap up the show if Fox and Warner came to an agreement soon. Now there are only four episodes to go, so there is no longer that opportunity. There won't be a decision until May, a fact mentioned in this article. What is never in doubt, though, is it'll be a finale that is definitive so we're not left with a cliffhanger, but one that finds a crack for season 5 to shine through if renewal is granted.

While waiting for the end to come, help us to convince Fox to renew Fringe by participating in this week's Fringe Twitter and GetGlue event for "Letters of Transit." Use the hashtag #FightTheFuture during the show.

Fringe Fans Ask Great Questions

4/13/2012

If you're a Fringe fan and somehow don't know, Fox has been doing a series of videos called "Fans Ask Fringe." You get to know a bit about the wonderful people behind the characters, where they answer any odd thing you can come up with, such as Pecoln (see below), and reveal their personalities. "Spoiler:" They're witty and gracious.

I haven't seen them all yet, because life gets in the way, so here are three of the best from this season. It is absolutely adorable how the first three people in this video say they would take home cast members. I would do the same.

Remember, it's Fringe Friday! Please try to watch live tonight and help trend the show on Twitter, if you can, with the hashtag #AcrossTheUniverse starting at 8pm EST. One hashtag per tweet only. If it's renewed, thank Fringenuity for their innovative campaign that got the attention of Fox.

Will Walter Remember?

4/13/2012

Will Walter remember Peter now that Olivia does? Jackson says they kind of gloss over everything else and never get to that. I loved the original timeline, but I trust that the writers know what they're doing. The season is almost over, so soon, and yet it took so long to get Olivia to where she is now that I wouldn't want them to force an unnatural end like that, with Walter suddenly and conveniently remembering his original timeline. Walter is still Walter, even if he is missing three years of experience, and the tender moments (see video) between him and Peter are just as affecting as they always were. If the series ends after the next five episodes, Fringe fans will be fine knowing that the love was always there, holding everything together. But if it's renewed, I don't doubt that next season they would have Walter either remember or try to find a way...probably involving drugs, and lots of them. :)

And if the show is renewed, you can thank Fringenuity for coordinating our efforts. You can help tonight by getting involved on Twitter. Download icons from Fringenuity to use as your Twitter pic, like this adorable, and not at all Angry-looking, Walter Bird.

Fringe Renewal Depends On Us

4/11/2012

I just found out via Twitter that Fringe fans in the UK were using their own hashtag, #WorkTogether (ours was #FaceYourself), for last Friday's episode airing today. Since we all need to help out as much as we can I spent a minute to send a tweet, even though I already watched the episode.

Follow a few overseas fans, such as @xphile_mo and @Fringe__UK and next Wednesday you'll see those tweets asking for people to help get Fringe trending. Do your part as much as you can so we have the best possible shot at a fifth season. For more Fringies to follow, check my list, One Night in April.

Across the Universe

4/11/2012

It's that time again. This Friday is another chance to show Fox you care about saving Fringe by tweeting frequently with the hashtag #AcrossTheUniverse during this week's episode, "The Consultant."

Fringe418Preview0000214
Screenshot belongs to Fox and is hosted by FringeFiles.com.

This hashtag was created by fans and Fox is using it during the show, just like they have for the last several weeks. Use only one hashtag per tweet starting at 8pm EST in messages like "I would go #AcrossTheUniverse for Fringe." We're trying to get Fringe to trend again and convince Fox the audience is there for this amazing show and that it deserves to be renewed. Go to Fringenuity to find out more about this campaign, and please tell your friends.

Nineteen ~ The Dark Tower T-shirt

4/11/2012

Nineteen

TeeFury has a shirt today that I could not pass up. It's inspired by Stephen King's masterwork, The Dark Tower. I almost missed this one because I'm trying not to spend money for the time being. But King is my favorite author and I never see shirts about any of his books, so it had to be mine. It's gone in 9 hours and 30 minutes. Get it now.

UPDATE
NINETEEN is available in the TeeFury Gallery for $18.

Paintstone ~ Community T-Shirt

4/06/2012

Paintstone (Community shirt)

Time for a new shirt. This one is inspired by Community, specifically the second season finale paintball episodes, "A Fistful of Paintballs" and "For a Few Paintballs More." The paintball war was stepped up a couple of hilarious notches from the first season's great "Modern Warfare." Community fans, don't pass this up.

Face Yourself

4/06/2012

It's that time again, Fringies. Yes, I said "Fringies." I keep seeing people using it, so I might as well. It kind of sounds ridiculous, but this is a show with a sense of humor, so I guess it fits. I'm even using the Twitter icon pack today with the two Lincolns as Angry Birds. See the reason in this video.

Anyway, back to what I stopped work for. This year has seen a huge surge in support for the show on Twitter with fans trying to save it from cancellation...again! The Nielsen's are useless, but we hope to change things using social media. All we needed was someone to organize our efforts under the banner of Fringenuity. And guess what? Fox has noticed! They used the Fringenuity hashtags in the latest shows and are continuing to do so for the rest of the season. The only thing you have to do is tweet with the hashtag #FaceYourself tonight at 8PM EST. I should have said this yesterday, but I couldn't find the icons some reason. I guess the campaign page wasn't loading right for me.

MS Walk in April

4/02/2012

Okay, who wants to fight MS? My brothers, sister-in-law, and I will be walking for my mom, Karen, on April 22. I know she would love to be able to walk more than a few feet again without a struggle. I know she would give anything to not be exhausted all the time. I know she would be elated to go back to being a school nurse and helping children, an impossible job when you can't even get back and forth from your desk to the refrigerator where the medications are kept.

Please help us in eradicating this degenerative disease. There are three weeks left for donations. Hopefully, we'll do better than last time. We probably ate more in free food than was collected in donations. If you can't contribute this time don't worry. We'll definitely be doing this again, especially since we're all losing weight and actually like to exercise now. Maybe this time my feet won't try to fall off. ;)
