Jurassic World Dominion

“Bigger. Why do they always have to go bigger?”

Well, Ian, that’s to up the awe and fear factor, of course. We wouldn't want it any other way.

Just sitting here in the parking lot of Mt. Sinai in Hartford, waiting for Mom’s appointment to be done. Only my Dad could go in with her, though she needs a lot of help. So, I’m trying to work on my iPad over a crappy hotspot connection from my phone, when the trailer for Jurassic World: Dominion pops up in a Twitter notification from Chris Pratt. How could I not click on it?

Must go faster!

It has been quite a while since I've talked about t-shirts. The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Art of Evolution prints pretty much became all there was for me for eleven weeks, and since then I've been writing a really long post about the spectacular, bittersweet finale. That won't be done any time soon, so I'm finally getting back into the one-a-day t-shirt world (or fifteen-a-week, in the case of collections).

I was supposed to bring this sale to you last weekend, but that's when TeeFury moved to a new affiliate network and that's when I was kicked out of the program. I hadn't sent any customers their way in a while, because life happened, so I thought they no longer wanted me. Good thing I kept a cool head and worded my email to them as discouraged but curious rather than unleashing the wrath of a thousand gods. I personally find that the former tends to get better results.

Turns out it just was a mistake and everything was cleared up. But it coincided with a sale I'd been looking forward to of tees that celebrate Jurassic World, the already very successful third sequel to one of my all-time favorites. I have a number of movies I count as favorites, and only The Princess Bride I think I watched more than Jurassic Park, but only because I'm usually more in the mood for laughs. So those are my top two, and when clever t-shirts are designed with either of them in mind, I get excited.

This collection was supposed to end on June 22. Luckily, it seems the sale has been extended for another four days. Just for me? Haha, no. I assume it's because they added a bunch of other great shirts that they hadn't started the sale with, two or three of which I badly want, one of which I may just get. I really have to curb my spending, though. I recently fell madly in love with Twin Peaks and I've gone mad buying all the things.

To showcase here, I picked my four favorite shirts of the ones I don't own (Gotta Love Me and Jurassic Bingo) or haven't already posted/seen before (Jurassic Aquarium, Just Keep Flying, Dino DNA). Wow, Super Jurassic World is adorable with a bunch of Yoshis following Mario, but I'll save that for a looooong overdue post on ConsoleLife...if I can get to that later. Nah, I don't think I'll have the time since it's Father's Day. I'll be a bit busy. I also actually need to see Jurassic World. I'm always at least a week behind on every movie. But I heard good things from @docsaico and I'm really itching to see it. [Update] Ooh, just heard from my brother that we will be seeing JW today, very soon. I should go get ready now.

Tees start at $20 each and the shipping is more than reasonable, starting at $3. If none of these designs appeal to you, check out the rest of the Dino DNA Collection. The ones I mentioned already that I own or have posted before are highly recommended. [Update] I couldn't help myself. I bought the first two shirts below, Attack on Dinosaur - Blue (No Text) and The Raptor Squad. They were just too good to pass up. And I couldn't choose between them. One represents the old and I had to celebrate the new, since Jurassic World was a lot of fun...except for the people next to me giggling constantly at the most inappropriate moments. It's not always funny to see someone who didn't deserve it get eaten by a dino. Now I have to go again at a less crowded time so I can pay attention to the movie instead.

[Update, 7/24/15]  Finally got to see it again, this time in a nearly empty theater. No one next to me being distracting. So much better. More fun, more emotional. I actually got a chill this time.

Dinosaur Tag Team vs. Space Western

The clear winner for me is the Dinosaurs/Jurassic Park mash up. I already have two Firefly/Serenity shirts, and there will ALWAYS be more of those. I never even thought of Dinosaurs being a shirt, especially not when it first aired and all I cared about were sneakers and video games. But I loved the show and it's a part of my childhood, and JP is one of my favorite movies, so I must have this. In fact, I bought it before I even started this post. Alright, now I have to start saving.

UPDATE
KAYLEE'S SPACECRAFT REPAIR is available at TeeFury for $18.
KAYLEE'S SPACECRAFT REPAIR is also available in Bamboota's Red Bubble store in a variety of colors for $27.04.
GOTTA LOVE ME is available in Bamboota's Red Bubble store for $27.03.

I have never seen this trailer. Makes me want to go back and watch it again for the first time. One of the best theater experiences. I still get goosebumps when I watch it.

Speaking of goosebumps, I got them while watching this fan trailer.

It's Jeff Goldblum Day!

This morning I just happened to put on Will & Grace during breakfast and it was one of the episodes that the adorably quirky Jeff Goldblum guest starred on, "Dance Cards and Greeting Cards." The second half of this video is from that episode, and the following is another great collection of his scenes.

Deathly Hallows, Part 2 Inspires Return to...Jurassic Park?

The beauty and emotional impact of the final Harry Potter movie has revived something in me I thought had been defeated: a gnawing desire to re-read some of my most adored books. Now that it's over I feel a sort of emptiness and a pessimistic attitude that says it is impossible there will ever again in my lifetime come along something that captures the imagination and heart in such equal and enormous measure, an experience that everyone can share and love, and laugh and cry over.

There have been stories I loved enough to want to revisit, but I have little time for repeats, so it's never happened. No, the simple books I read (or was read to) multiple times as a child, like The Monster at the End of This Book, Leo the Lop, or Puss in Boots, don't count. But now as soon as I'm done with The Dark Tower - a wonderful series that defines "epic" from my favorite author, but a long journey that stalled many times for me over many years through the loss of a number of relatives and pets - I am going back to Potter...and Jurassic Park.

It's been 18 years since I read JP in the spring of '93. I was 14. "WTF? Are you kidding me?!" No, brain, no I'm not. "Wow." Anyway, I just picked up a pretty new copy of Jurassic Park/The Lost World with silver-edged pages from Barnes & Noble. I already have two copies, but they're old and messy, so the purchase felt justified. I passed it on my way out and couldn't resist, even though I'd already decided to buy SciFi Magazine with the David Tennant Fright Night cover, the Nicholas Courtney tribute Doctor Who Magazine #436, and a Harry Potter poster book. Darn it, I needed that money.

And if you were wondering, when I return to Hogwarts, I won't be looking at Snape with a new appreciation. I was with him from the very first. That is possibly due to having seen Sorcerer's Stone before I read it. Whatever J.K. Rowling revealed to Alan Rickman about this openly contemptuous man with the poignant secret and vital role seemed to have greatly informed his performance early on. Even if it had been the other way around, I would have been very intrigued by the hard-edged, mysterious professor. J.K. knew what she was doing from the start with so many characters and an intricate storyline that ties everything together in the end, instead of seven completely self-contained stories, and I salute her for this tremendous accomplishment.
