A "New" Melody

3/26/2012

I say new because these songs are new to me, but they could be as old as time. My blog, my rules. They played on my Mumford & Sons station on Pandora a few minutes ago, so their sounds are similar to that group. I would not recommend them if they weren't really good, but who knows if they'll become favorites and if I'll still be listening to them years down the road. Right now, they are worth my time...and yours.

No video for this one, "Moonshiner" by Redbird, anywhere that I've found, and it needs Flash.

Entertainment Weekly ~ 52 Issues for $10

3/22/2012

I just found and used an awesome deal on Entertainment Weekly a few minutes ago. You are buying directly from them, so your account will be updated immediately. It's the best price I've ever found at $10 for a 1-year auto renewal.

I went to their customer service site to get a replacement (again!) for a very damaged issue. While there I noticed that my subscription had lapsed in January. I'd seen this before, but completely forgot about it because they kept coming. Maybe that's why my issues are always late and ruined; they just wanted their money. Nah, I'm kidding. I still blame the Post Office. So, I tried to figure what happened. First stop, my email to see where I'd renewed magazines in the last year. No luck, for some reason, but it's in there somewhere. So I went to Amazon and couldn't find it in my history. Then I went to put it in my Amazon cart and it said I'd already ordered an auto renewal subscription of EW. That led me to the magazine subscription management page which told me there was some sort of error that didn't allow it to be renewed. I was all ready to fork over $25 at this point, because subscriptions just keep getting more expensive for the magazines I used to find great deals on. Good thing I decided do a quick search and not be lazy.

Every Other Week

3/19/2012

Here we go again. Thank you, Post Office, for another ruined magazine. At least every other week I'm contacting Entertainment Weekly to replace an issue. It sometimes happens to other magazines, such as Blade, who have stopped replacing my destroyed copies or even responding to me, but mostly it's EW.

EW Ripped Cover, March 23, 2012

That didn't look too awful, right? The edges were only slightly ripped. Well, upon a closer inspection, there is a hole in the cover. And then I opened the magazine and found this...

...sixteen shredded corners and the back cover. Sadly, this isn't even the worst I've had. A couple covers fell off when I opened the magazines, and a few others have been so damaged they were put in a bag that has an apology written on it. I really should be getting an apology every week. That reminds me, out of the four or five times I used the prepaid boxes they were left behind twice. Then I had to go down there and waste the time a scheduled pickup was supposed to save. Lovely.

Miranda Writes Logo Entry

3/19/2012

This is my entry for Docsaico's logo contest, done in Inkpad for the iPad. It came out more complicated than anticipated. I do not recommend learning a program on a deadline; it took damn near forever - forever being almost two weeks. I'd had a bit of experience in GIMP and Inkscape before, but I was never inclined to finish anything, so my skills were definitely limited. Now I'm really tired. Time to get to bed, and maybe tomorrow life will return to normal and I can continue work on that Fringe post I've been promising for weeks.

Just checking something here for a minute. Trying to get a larger picture that doesn't blur. Hmm, I uploaded to PhotoBucket and it came out full size. Interesting. This way the black logo can also load over a background other than black.

And here's another version, more like what you would need for a smaller picture with less detail and cleaner lines. I removed the extra color from the calligraphy pen on the left wing to match the silver of the blade on the right, removed the feathers from both wings, and changed the eyes to pure white. This one is closer to an actual logo, while the other is intended to be a larger graphic. I might eventually do one that's further simplified.

In the Wrong Labyrinth ~ $10 Limited Edition T-Shirt

3/16/2012

Photobucket

I like Pac-Man. I like Labyrinth. But I'm not a huge fan of either, so I don't necessarily need today's shirt, In the Wrong Labyrinth. I immediately thought of Robert Berg from Rob Will Review, though, who had recently tweeted about watching it on Blu-ray. By the way, I found that tweet with SnapBird, which let's you search far back into specific users' timelines, favorites, mentions, and messages instead of all of Twitter.

You have just under 9 hours to get this shirt for $10, with shipping starting at $2.50. Tomorrow it will be replaced with something new. Also available on a hoodie, onesie, and children's sizes.

Ninja Rhapsody ~ TMNT Limited Edition T-Shirt

3/13/2012

For just the next 10 hours and 34 minutes you can buy this great shirt with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles posed like Queen in the "Bohemian Rhapsody" video. They are all wearing the original comic book red colors, instead of the red, orange, blue, and purple of the cartoons and movies, a fact I didn't know until today. I grew up with the cartoon. If I had the budget right now I would get it in a second, but I spent too much on myself recently with nothing coming in at the moment. Hurt my hand somehow and my job involves typing - it's ALL typing - so I have to take time off. No shirts for me...unless a whole bunch of awesome people click the link right now! ... ... ... .... Aww, I thought not. Still, it would have been nice, since I don't have a Turtles shirt and hardly ever see them.

Shiny Bock Beer ~ Jayne Cobb Limited Edition T-Shirt

3/13/2012

TeeFury.com: $10 limited edition tshirts!

12 hours and 31 minutes to go before today's TeeFury sale is over.

I wish artists didn't come out with so many great Firefly and Serenity shirts. I would love to get the "Shiny Bock Beer" shirt with Jayne's face on it, but I'm restricting myself for the time being. If you have the $10, there's no reason you shouldn't buy it. Sizes up to 2X are available in men's and XL in women's, and shipping starts at $2.50. The design is by the talented Spacemonkeydr, who has turned out some great shirts, such as Baggins' Pawn Shop and Til Death.

Just so you know, I have no idea why the Shareasale links don't have the option to show the shirt of the day.
