I was floored by the quality of Guardians of the Galaxy. I kept my expectations low because there was a walking tree and a talking raccoon. I wondered how that would work in live action Marvel. Don't know why I didn't just think back to the likes of The Lord of the Rings or Who Framed Roger Rabbit. It's worked before and Marvel is terrific at making things work. I knew that and still didn't expect much. Boy, was I wrong. I love being wrong. I hardly ever let myself get excited for any movie so that I won't be disappointed if it turns out to be not so good. What a wonderful surprise this one was.

I recently saw Guardians again. Got it for Christmas. It's no less fun, exciting, hilarious, or emotional the third time through, as I suspect the thirtieth will be. It instantly became one of my favorite movies, particularly for a number of great quotes. Three of those quotes are available in the two-day flash sale and one other -- all by DoodleDee -- as part of today's TwoFury. Also, there's a Rocket Bob Ross and his happy little Groot by ZombieDollars (Nik Holmes). I can't stop smiling at that one.

There is so much I would like to say about this episode, but there just isn't time. Time...something only the Doctor can manipulate and not even he has enough of it. I spent whatever few spare minutes I had most days between November 8, the day the finale aired, until December 24, the day before this Christmas special, writing about Death in Heaven. I've done this before with other shows, and it's always a silly endeavor to try finishing something that takes so long. Everyone's always onto the next thing by then. But, still, if I ever have a chance to write more about this spectacularly joyful and profoundly emotional episode, and series, then I may, but I am so tired. Christmas has worn me out; not just the day itself, but the entire run up to it. I didn't have much time for anything or I would have had the "Death in Heaven" post done mere days after it aired.

I'm all by myself running this site (obviously) and I have two day jobs now, plus a number of side jobs that don't qualify as jobs but take just as much time, and just being part of a family is a big obligation. So instead of a summary, recap, or review that will take me well into next month, I'll leave you with a few thoughts, quotes, and my favorite t-shirts since that's the main reason you're here. I wish I could make my own. I'm sure someone will come up with a Doctor Who/Inception  tee based on this episode that's nearly a copy of the one in my head before I even get the chance to start drawing it. It's happened before. Anyway...

As always, I had a wonderful time with the show making me laugh and then doing a kind of wrenching, twisty thing with my emotions.

This episode started where we left off, with Saint Nick. Nick Frost was the perfect choice. Best Santa ever. I expected nothing less of one of my favorite funny men. And he got to say that Santa's sleigh was bigger on the inside. I'm still smiling at that one and about committing "several million housebreaks in one night."

After introducing Santa to Clara and the Doctor interrupting to mysteriously whisk her off to the North Pole, then it got super creepy with the Sleepers. "Who were they? What happened to them? Wait, they wake up if you think about them? Yikes!" That was kind of my internal monologue. It was also funny, because that girl went all out dancing past them.

"Do you know why people get together at Christmas? Because every time they do, it might be the last time." Something I thought of a few times over the years after my older relatives started passing away. I never heard it put into words until dreamland Danny Pink said this on that night I might have seen one of my family members for the last time. You never know. It's always hard to think about. Thanks a lot, Samuel Anderson. Good thing we're all lucky enough to see each other at least a few times a year.

More Danny! It was lovely to see him again. I knew this is how it would have to go after the way they left it in "Death in Heaven." Well, not exactly. I figured we would never see him alive again. But this was the last of Danny and he was just a dream, a memory Clara has been holding onto.

"There's a horror movie called Alien? That's really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you." One of a number of hilarious lines, like most episodes. The Doctor needs to stop running for a while, sit down, and treat himself to a movie.

I loved how the Doctor said something about Danny that was offensive to Clara and she slapped him and told him Danny was dead. They got nearly right to the point even when they didn't have a moment to breathe. That's how I pictured it going, but I didn't think it would. Most series drag that kind of thing out and pile misunderstandings and lies on top of each other. I have to stop forgetting that Doctor Who doesn't always do the expected. That's one of the wonderful things about it. Clara admitted she lied so the Doctor could feel free to go home, and the Doctor admitted he lied about finding Gallifrey so Clara could have a life with Danny. It was refreshing that they told each other the truth. But it seemed that it wasn't only wanting each other to be happy, but to save themselves from looking so vulnerable at that moment. They were both so raw, the Doctor is uncomfortable with emotion, and who wants to break down in a restaurant in front of strangers? ;)

Oh, and when the Doctor took the reins of the dream sleigh and pure joy came across his face? Capaldi was brilliant again, as he has ably demonstrated so many times. It was wonderful to see that carefree, childlike side again. It's been a while. The Doctor has been so affected by his new personality that his self-loathing and regret has brought out a bitterness and callousness. While I love the difficulties of loving him, it was beautiful to see his guard drop. It was simultaneously a funny and sweet moment that could easily have been a silly throw-away. Instead it encapsulated the spirit of a man who stole a box to see the universe.

Clara as an old woman. "Oh no, not this way!" I screamed in my head, but all I could do while watching with family was allow my eyes to water as I stared straight at the TV, making sure no one saw my face. I was certain this season that Clara would be leaving because she was in love. Then she decided to stay. I was then certain her end would come soon at the hands of some despicable character or by saving the world. Then Danny died and that was devastating, yet he saved the world. So I thought Clara would blame the Doctor for not being able to bring Danny back and let that be her reason for leaving him. It turned out that she didn't lash out in that way and left because she thought the Doctor had a chance at a normal life, and he thought the same of her. They lied to protect each other.

But we saw at the end of the episode that they would be together again for "Last Christmas," at the end of which I was fooled once again. It looked like the Doctor had missed decades of Clara's life. I was sure that wasn't a dream then and that was how we would be saying goodbye to Clara, from a vibrant young woman moments before to a lonely old woman who had spent her life holding onto the memory of her truest friend, hoping one day he would return, and with a ghost in her heart of the man she would have spent her life with, who had a chance to return and gave it to someone else.

It was an overwhelming moment for me when the Doctor, averse to touching, put his hand on Clara's withered and weak one to help her open a Christmas cracker. Oh, the time he missed. I would have let the tears flow had I been watching alone, as with so many other episodes, especially this season.

The Doctor's face when he's asking Clara to travel with him again. He's so nervous that she'll say no. This is a man who needs some happiness, who needs that second chance that he offers others. It's so uplifting that he got it in the end...that they both did. Because Clara and the Doctor need each other. If that was the series finale, it would have been a perfect ending.

Touching moments are touching -- Any time we can get this Doctor some human contact is a great thing. Adventuring together and almost dying constantly should involve a lot of mandatory hugs, because you never know when the last time will be. Even though it's a way to hide your face and the feelings that show on it, hugging is better than "I love you" or telling someone, sometimes falsely, that everything will be alright. I love how he held her hand when she was attacked by the dream crab. Then he put himself in grave danger (though he was already unknowingly in a dream himself) by doing the same to try to get her out, though he knew they would be dissolving his brain if he did. He submitted to her blitz hug from behind while in the sleigh after a bit of protest. Then put his hand on hers again, without hesitation, when she was an old woman. When they finally woke up, he hopefully asked her to come with him again and took her hand, leaving behind her house...and a tangerine that reminded me of the spinning top from Inception that gave a little wobble, which made me wonder for a second if they were still dreaming or if Santa was real or if it was just a little nod to the imaginary savior of the day. They had to have woken up. They couldn't just leave a Christmas episode on such a note.

The Doctor and Clara are just so wonderful together. She is every bit his match and a companion not to underestimate. Their relationship has gone through so much and there is a lot of love between them.

I wrote some fan fic in my head as I sometimes do between episodes when I'm falling asleep. I'll never actually publish anything, because I don't have that kind of time or the talent that would require. Then no one would read them...and I wouldn't want them to either, so there's no point. Also, I'm not a writer, but for anyone interested, I like this tiny snippet.

Now I'll leave you with a couple of t-shirts that I've been wanting. I wanted to post Drew Wise's 51 Timey Wimey Years, which I have and wore on Christmas day, but it was apparently just a very limited run. There were no new Who shirts yesterday or today at TeeFury or RiptApparel, and I have no idea if there will be any tomorrow or any time this week because they neglected to email me upcoming shirts. I'm not waiting. I always wait too long or take too long. So after scouring my favorite stores for the best of Doctor Who, here are Regenerations by zerobriant, which stacks the silhouetted bust of every Doctor inside the next, and Listen by saqman in the style of Tim Burton, which I don't always appreciate, but I certainly do in this instance. It is also available at RedBubble. I would love to be able to post a "Last Christmas" shirt, but any one with the 12th Doctor will do, especially if it portrays a terrifically creepy scene from one of my favorite episodes and gives the Doctor that hilarious, angry expression.

When I couldn't remember quite how a line went and I didn't have time to search the episode, I checked ThreeIfBySpace.net, which has a wonderful series listing Doctor Who quotes.

These are wonderful. I haven't bought a shirt in a while and I can't pass these up. I already have the Futurama-style Doctorama shirt, which had four Doctors along with other lowercase "D" doctors such as Dre and Doogie Howser. Regen-O-Rama by CoD Designs is a great new version showing only the Doctors. It was a hard choice between this and the less cartoony Gallery of Time by onebluebird. I adore every serious, award-worthy moment on this incredible series, but the lighthearted hilarity is very much a part of it, too, so Regen-O-Rama wins for making me laugh at Four's intrusive scarf, at Ten's 3-D glasses and hair, at Eleven's bowtie, at War's butting in, and especially Twelve's scowl and eyebrows.

An actual, life-sized TARDIS! Well, okay, not quite actual. It doesn't take you through space and time, and I'm pretty sure that it's a bit smaller on the inside. Also, the Doctor is not an accessory, though if you have the money maybe you can convince one to pop in. But it will look nifty sitting in your living room, if you have that kind of space, or as the centerpiece of your whimsical, science fiction-themed garden. Oh my goodness, I now need a whimsical, science fiction-themed garden. That would be amazing. Of course, I don't have any chance to win. I'm not lucky, but I have to try any way. And so do you. And to go along with this wonderful sweepstakes, TeeFury is also putting all Doctor Who tees in the gallery on sale for $15 until November 23 to commemorate the 51st Anniversary of the show. "51st? That's odd," you may say. Well, according to TeeFury it's "because anniversaries can get pretty timey-wimey and this just felt like a fine point in space and time to do something big."

It's the entire Cornetto Trilogy all on one shirt? How very economical. I would love to have this. Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and World's End are all terrific, hilarious movies and definitely three of my favorites. Unfortunately, I already have a Doctor Who shirt done in the same Rockwell style, I have a mashup shirt with the first two movies, and I'm saving up for Christmas, so I'm going to regretfully pass. But if it were another time, I wouldn't hesitate to buyt his. So you can bet I'll be looking for it in artist Alberto Arni's RedBubble at some point...sadly, at more than twice the price. But for today they're on TeeFury starting at $11.

I apologize for not putting this up much earlier today. I wrote the post and then got distracted by my cousin visiting, then I was on eBay and Craigslist, then I started cleaning out my closet. I had dusty clothes in there! And I figured it was about time to get rid of some shirts I haven't worn in years.

You know it's not possible to go a single October without watching The Shining. I've never before thought to put into words what I love about it, but I'll give it a shot. Jack Nicholson's performance as Jack Torrance, an on-the-wagon family man who just wants some peace to write his novel, but who instead turns rather cuckoo bananas, is giddily terrifying. Over the years, I've grown to appreciate Shelley Duvall as the meek mother, Wendy, concerned for both of her boys' mental states, emotionally drained as she watches her husband devolve, then convincingly shaken and panicked as she realizes nearly too late that she needs to get her son Danny far away. Even though I know he outruns his father and outsmarts him in the hedge maze, I'm still always on edge for Danny. And The Overlook is a character itself, revealing something unnatural around any random corner.

Of course, this was a change in direction from the original novel, and Stephen King hates what Kubrick did. He has every right to since it was his story. Jack Torrance was a better man in the novel, eventually released from the hold the hotel had over him and allowing his family to escape. But I saw the movie long before I read the book. I was a kid when I started reading Stephen King novels, but the first book I got from the library was actually Firestarter. It wasn't until years later that I read The Shining and by then I already loved the film. And I always will.

It's shaping up to be another great season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., perhaps as mind-blowing and emotional as the first. Last night, in "A Hen in the Wolfhouse," (i.e. sweet Simmons working for evil Hydra) there was a comforting hug between Coulson and Skye after she found out who and what she might be and tried to find her father. That's the Coulson I love most. A close second is the ass-kicking Coulson, the quippy Coulson, the hard Coulson, and the scared Coulson. Really, I love the whole package. Clark Gregg has been fantastic. So has everyone else. The team that was hobbled at the finale is coming together again with a number of new and welcome faces. I can't wait to see how the fractured Fitz and Simmons will repair that relationship, and how she will come to terms with what he's been through without her.

Okay, now that I took too much time out of my super busy day (shirts I like only release on super busy days) to talk about one of my favorite shows (and cereals!) and struggle with even signing into nearly broken Photobucket to upload the pic, I should tell you that Phil's Agents of K.R.I.S.P.I.E.S. by Bamboota is available today for $11 at TeeFury. A few days ago I celebrated the start of the epic season 10 of Supernatural with three shirts from RiptApparel. What a milestone. Today we all can continue that celebration with TeeFury's Gallery curated by WinchesterBros.com. These designs are all available until October 14 for $15 a piece. There are also four great posters that are $11: The Demon Within, The Tortured Soul, Hunter's Guide and Hunter's Guide 2. I particularly love The Demon Within, because that's Dean's journey this year. Edit: Wow, they actually resolved the demon thing quite quickly rather than taking the entire season. Good. I like Dean with a soul much better. I'm sure there will still be a struggle with the mark of Cain, though, especially since the show mentioned it. ;)

If you know me, you know I loved this summer's biggest blockbuster and for good reason. Guardians of the Galaxy was hilarious, sweet, and action-packed. I would add at least We Are... by Bamboota to my collection if I had any room left in my drawers, because if you've seen it you know why "We are Groot" made me cry. And Saturday Night Dance-Off by Zerobriant is a funny one. Peter danced by himself to music in the beginning, and he danced to save a world in the end. Doesn't sound like that makes any sense if you skipped this movie, but it was a distraction that had me in stitches.

I haven't posted anything in a little while. There's just been too much to get done around here. But I thought I'd take a little break for a few moments to talk about these tees. For anyone who doesn't know, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a great series. Actually, "great" is not a big enough word to describe it, but nothing else I can think of does it justice either. Just like all the best, it's one of those things that becomes a part of you. I skipped the first couple years, because while I loved the movie for some reason, I had no desire to watch multiple episodes and thought it wouldn't last. I probably just assumed the campiness and bad acting would follow and be a disappointment. Turned out that I was very, very wrong. The characters were endearing and could find humor in the face of the oddest and worst of situations. The emotions often drilled deeper than any standard, non-supernatural drama. Just see the episode "The Body" for proof of that: the most elegantly constructed 44 minutes of what it's like to lose someone close to you. Then Buffy spawned a spin-off, Angel, which matched its wits and heart, and it was the first time I ever took notice of a TV writer/creator, the incredibly talented Joss Whedon; you know, that Avengers guy. It was all brilliantly done. I think it's time for a rewatch of both series.

If you do know what I'm talking about, then you may be happy to see today's shirts. First up is Our Lady of Protection by heymonster, depicting the star of the show. I like it, but what really prompted me to write this was The Gentlemen by cs3ink, the creepy as hell, smiling, voice-stealing, heart-carving enemy from the silent episode "Hush."

I have a new favorite movie! It's another from Marvel, of course. They have tended to just about rule my summers since 2008. If they keep churning out hits, I'll keep devouring them like the sweet and savory treats they are and get more familiar with this wonderfully rich and diverse stable of stories. As I've mentioned a few times before, I didn't had no allowance as a kid and never discovered the wonderful world of comics. Guardians of the Galaxy is one I would have adored. It's an incredibly good time. It's funny (a word that doesn't do it justice), charming, and filled with personality. There was so much to love and laugh about and, like the best of them, even things to get misty-eyed over. Humor and heart is always a winning combination.

I love the selection from RiptApparel. Get your Guardians Far Away, Lord Soldier, and/or Warriors of the Stars today starting at just $10 a piece. But I can't possibly get everything there is. I have to choose wisely. I wish I could get the "I am Groot" shirt that I added to my wish list quite a while ago. I never bought it because I was waiting to see how good the movie would be, and I didn't notice somehow that it was a Comic-Con exclusive or I may have taken a chance on it. Since it was insanely great, I would happily give away some little green paper in exchange for a depiction of scared raccoon and an adorable tree, but my size is no longer available. There are still Men's Medium and Women's Large for only $12.95. Ooh, I can get a 6x10" print on eBay! (And I've bought it. I deserve something for working hard lately.) I think I have a few inches left on my walls beside the Fringe, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Harry Potter, and Dark Knight Joker posters. I would also love some always amazing Mondo posters, but I can't possibly spend another $45 to $60 a pop like I did before, and the best one with Groot is sold out anyway.

So the minute I published this, TeeFury sent me an email about their own Guardians tees today. Why didn't I think to check them before? Anyway, Soon in a Galaxy Nearby and The Raccoon Nebula I like even more than the RiptApparel shirts. I may have to get one, even though I already bought the "I am Groot" print.

I think you figured it out quite quickly, but I have to say something. Here comes the old yet still funny joke about sending in the Red Shirts. They get a couple minutes of screen time and then go on an away mission and are never seen again. Their families must be devastated. You'd think after all this time that it would be very played out. But once in a while someone comes along and makes you shoot milk out of your nose thinking about those poor, insignificant extras who get killed by some monster five minutes after they land on the planet. Boy, am I happy Guy Fleegman (Galaxy Quest [Blu-ray] ) wasn't wearing the dreaded color. And this one is simple and clever: a Trek engineering insignia for the nasal aperture, the Enterprise designation branded on the forehead, and it's red, of course. I love it when t-shirt designers are also comedians. The only thing that would have made this better would have been if it were a TwoFury with a competing shirt about Stormtrooper hand-eye coordination.

There are 15 hours left to get Redshirt for $11. Tomorrow it will be more expensive and available until noon. After that you'll have to hope that the artist puts it up for sale elsewhere. If you miss it, maybe you'll be happy with the equally funny Enlist!

Two of my favorite animated movies are up against each other today. If I were buying anything right now, this would be a hard decision. Night Fury Folklore features Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon, adorable as always, in a beautiful design. Just look at that face. And Some Peanuts Up There features Russell, Mr. Fredricksen, Dug, and Kevin from Up. I never really cared for Peanuts, but the heart-warming effects of Pixar absolutely makes up for that. I would probably have to get both.

I'm getting to this one really late, because of lots of work. It will be gone at the end of the day. Cool glow in the dark. Scooby Doo style very similar to the artist's previous work on Haunted Old Van. Kinda funny with the ghosts haunting Baby. Wait a sec...this is sad. I don't want to think of her that way. And of course I have to assume that's Dean and Sam in the car. *tears* Now this is making me think of Supernatural ending. That will be a haunting day indeed. Okay, must think positively. Even if the worst comes, I have to believe that Dean will always come back for that Impala, roll his sleeves up, and get to work. No matter how it turns out in the end.

Anthony Villafuerte (aka Zerobriant), a terrific artist, needs spinal disc surgery to get back to normal and possibly save his life. I don't know him, but I know and love his work. If you frequent the daily t-shirt sites, you have likely seen and admired and maybe even bought a shirt with one of his designs. You can read more about what happened at Help Save Zero. Both of the above shirts are available at TeeFury, but the extremely popular The 11th Hour will be gone after Friday. Buying one will help with his medical bills, and anyone who missed The 11th Hour the first time around gets a second chance, so it's a win-win. Normally I have a lot of things to say about a shirt for those who may not be sure what it's all about, but this is pretty self-explanatory. Why couldn't this come out around Halloween, when I might have some money again?

I never cared about Hello, Kitty, but I would absolutely buy these for the adorable Marvel and Up references. Now that Hydra has taken over in the marvelous (yes, I went there) Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and everything is hopeless, I would proudly declare that I was always with them by wearing the "Hello, Hydra" shirt. Then I would work from the inside to destroy them. Actually, I would probably give up really quick on that. Seems like a lot of work. But better than that, I have never seen an Up shirt. It was a terrific movie. One of my favorites from Pixar, and one of my favorites of all-time. I would love to have my own Dug. He's so adorably dopey.

I didn't check my Shareasale.com account for a little while, so getting a check in the mail today seemed completely out of the blue. I didn't have nearly enough in there back in February. Never imagined orders suddenly flooding in. Thank you very much to the people who ever bought t-shirts, hoodies, or anything at TeeFury, or who many one day buy something from RiptApparel, through one of my links. I hope you enjoy them! And now I can feel better about having spent money on an Art of Level 7 poster, which eventually will probably turn into two or three posters.

Remember, if there's ever anything wrong, don't hesitate to request a refund. I got to keep my Son of Coul from RiptApparel (still have to fix it), along with my money, when I found a hole in it. They responded quickly and courteously. Since they work similarly, both sites having designs available only for a day, sometimes two, and therefore nothing to replace a defective item with, I would expect TeeFury to do the same.

Snow Day! And I have work. :( Well, I'm supposed to be working right now, but I have Dragon Naturally Speaking here taking it's sweet time adapting my user profile. So I went to check my email and found these two perfect Supernatural shirts. I would not know what to choose if I was buying today. "Wayward Sons" is fantastic. I love how it's a single color and still so detailed, and of course being named after the show's unofficial theme makes it that much better. And "Moose and Squirrel" is hilarious. I never liked Rocky and Bullwinkle, but I'll be laughing at Sam, Dean, and Crowley's expressions all day. Why must there always be a great SPN tee (or two!) that I have to pass up? If only I had a giant closet and more money to spend frivolously. But you can get one before the end of the day for just $11 at TeeFury.
